Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0713002A1] The HP fuel pump has a reciprocating piston (9) moving in a cylinder sleeve (3). The pressure face (15) of the piston has a profiled recess (37) with a sloping section. This operates together with a control bore (19) to shut off the connection between the pressure side of the piston (17) and the LP supply side (21) of the pump. The relative rotational position of the piston brings a different part of the sloping section in line with the control bore, at different displacements of the piston, ie. the connection to the supply side is cut off at varying parts of the piston cycle. The pump output duct (25) feeds a pressure manifold (27) which feeds the different fuel injectors (31). The piston can have a second control chamber, at a lower level and linked to the control bore at TDC of the piston cycle to provide a controlled cut-off for the pump action. The rotational setting of the piston is via a control sleeve and a control shaft.
