Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0713232A1] The arc breaking chamber (9) incorporates an arc formation chamber (10) enclosing the fixed and moving contacts (8,7) between which an arc is struck at the instant of separation. The cooling elements (16) are placed in the arc formation chamber in order to cool the gases surrounding the moving contact. Preferably, there are two sets of plates arranged parallel to each other on opposite sides of the moving contact. Alternatively, two sets of tubes may be arranged either in the same position or equidistant from the moving contact and arc extinction plates (13).
