[origin: EP0713788A2] The method involves dividing a painting into contoured fields or regions. The fields are provided with identifiers associated with defined colours and/or grey tones. Electronic detection of the different grey tones or colour tones of an image is performed using a scanner, video camera or electronic camera. The detected grey tones or colour tones are divided into a limited number of categories and each field is allocated grey tone or colour tone category, a boundary and a category identifier. A corresp. image is printed out. Approximately 2 to 25, pref. 16, categories of tones may be used.
