[origin: WO9505400A1] The disclosure describes hydrazide functional polymers obtained by reaction of azlactone functional polymers with hydrazine. The hydrazine functional polymers are useful to react with carbonyl functional materials such as heparin to provide heparin functional polymers which are useful for purification, preparation, separation and investigation of substances with biological activity. Methods of making and using the heparin functional polymers as significantly improved affinity chromatography supports such as beads for the purification of antithrombin III are described.
