[origin: EP0714710A1] The discriminator detects e.g. by optoelectronic sensor (17) the wrapper (3) of each item of mail (2) before passing over a plate (4) contg. a suction head (5) connected to a venturi (10) to which compressed air is supplied (9) via a stop valve (11), air filter (12) and pressure regulator (13). The drop in pressure in a cavity (6) is measured by a vacustat (8) in conjunction with an electronic circuit (16) including a two-clock sequencer which accumulates measurements in successive positions of the wrapper for comparison with a pre-established threshold. Another comparator (22) operates on the reflection to a phototransistor array (20).
