Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0714964A1] A prod.(A) for forming the first edge strip (3) of insulating glazing without a metal separator is mainly of polyisobutylene (PIB) and butyl rubber (BR). The second edge strip (4) is obtd. by polymerisation of an elastomer. The novelty is that (A) contains less than 6 wt.% BR and also contains 1.5-4 wt.% of a thermoplastic polymer (I). Also claimed is the prodn. of insulating glazing without a metal separator, by extruding a first plastic strip (3) of (A), assembling the glazing and depositing a polymerisable elastomer material (4) at the edge of the glazing, where the shape of the start and end of the strip (3) form a seal on assembly. Esp. the start and end of the strip (3) are complementary bevels (8,9), with the narrowing of one compensating for the widening of the other; and the two ends are joined on a straight side of the glazing.
