[origin: EP0715956A2] The cleaning system uses a washing roller (2) or a washing cloth, brought into contact with the surface of the cylinder to be cleaned. At the beginning of each new cleaning cycle the time interval since the last cleaning cycle and the counted number of printed sheets are used to determine the quantity of supplied cleaning fluid and the number of cleaning cycles. Pref. the next cleaning of the cylinder is initiated in dependence on the number of printed sheets and the amount of cleaning fluid is determined independence on the elapsed time from the last cleaning cycle.
