[origin: EP0716400A1] The detection system uses an optical sensor device with a light source (14) and a light detector (18), coupled to the evaluation circuit of the coin-operated mechanism, for preventing delivery of the goods. The light source is incorporated in the wall of the coin chute and cooperates with a series of point light sensors closely spaced in the opposite coin chute wall, with periodic serial interrogation of the light sensors. The sensors are arranged along a line transverse to the movement direction of the inserted coin, each of their individual output signals compared with a threshold value, or the integrated output value compared with a reference value, for detection of the wire.
