[origin: EP0718421A2] A combing segment (18) on a comber rotates about an axis (14) and is cleaned by a driven rotary cleaning device (30). The min. distance between the circumscribing circle (E) of the cleaning device and the axis (14) is greater than the max. radius (R) of the combing segment (18). Pref. the cleaning device (30) is a cylinder covered with saw-toothed card clothing wire (38) and rotates in the opposite direction (34) to the combing cylinder (10). The speed of the cleaning device is about 8-10% greater than the peripheral speed of the combing segment. The min. gap (d) between the combing segment (18) and the wire (38) is about 0.05 - 0.5 mm, pref. not more than 0.1 mm. Noil collected on the wire (38) is removed by suction (56) through slots (52) in a grid (54).
