Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9508025A1] A press section apparatus (10) is disclosed for pressing water from a formed web (W). The apparatus (10) includes a first extended nip press (N1) for pressing a first portion of water from the web (W). A press felt (12) extends through the first press (N1), and a suction turning roll (14) is disposed downstream relative to the first press (N1) for guiding the press felt (12) and for urging the web (W) towards and around the turning roll (14). A second extended nip press (N2) is disposed downstream relative to the turning roll (14). The second press (N2) includes a backing roll (16) having a smooth circumferential surface (18) such that the web (W) follows the surface (18) when the web (W) emerges from the second press (N2). A transfer arrangement (20) transfers the web (W) away from the smooth surface (18) and onto a further press felt (22) which is disposed downstream relative to the smooth surface (18). A third extended nip press (N3) is disposed downstream relative to the transfer means (20) for controlling two-sidedness of the resultant web (W).
