An occlusion element (4) in the outlet of the collecting basin (1) is automatically closed by a sensor in the oil separator (7) when the layer of separated oil reaches a predetermined level. This ensures that the separator (7) does not receive an inordinate inflow of the transformer oil that runs into the collecting basin (1) in the event of a failure or along with the water used to extinguish a fire.
