Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0719904A1] The glass insulating unit consists of inner and outer panes (A and B) sepd round the edges by a joint filling material (I) designed to take up complex stresses arising in building applications and also mechanical stresses such as shock and vibration. Material (I) is a thermoplastic elastomer based on polyolefin mixts (TPO), with a water vapour permeability of less than 1 g.mm/mm<2>/day, a tensile strength of more than 4 N/mm<2>, a 50% tensile modulus of more than 1 N/mm<2> and a Shore hardness of more than 50 A. This material is produced by extrusion or continuous casting, in the form of a string with a visible sealing surface. The joint between (A), (I) and (B) is an adhesive pressure/heat bond, in which the visible sealing surface of (I) is pressed flush with the edge of (A) and/or (B) in such a way as to require no finishing.
