Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9509637A1] A novel class of highly sulfated maltooligosaccharides having heparin-like activity is described, as well as methods for using these oligosaccharides to treat certain diseases including cancer, retinopathies, and cardiovascular diseases. The figure shows the effects of the degree of sulfation of certain maltooligosaccharides, on binding of a lymphoblastoid cell line transfected with hamster syndecan (RO-12 UC) cells, to microtiter wells coated with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF).
