[origin: WO9509054A1] Described is a metering pump for atomizing a liquid and comprising a housing (10) designed to be fitted on a container for the liquid and enclosing a longitudinally displacable hollow piston (40). Fitted inside the piston (40) is a conical valve element (70) which can move lontidudinally independently of the piston and which, when the pump is actuated, opens a valve opening (45) in the piston (40) through which the liquid is dispensed from the container. The space between the conical valve element (70) and the inside wall of the piston (40) is sealed off by a sealing element (80; 90), the outer extremity of which is tightly held between a first piston part (44) and a second piston part (52) connected to the first part in the longitudinal direction, the sealing element deforming elastically when the conical valve element (70) moves in the piston (40).
