[origin: CA2173583A1] The description relates to a shapeable composite material based on thermomechanically hydrolyzed starch in a homogenous mixture with synthetic polymer compounds. To optimise its mechanical strength, synthetic polymer compounds with lateral and/or terminal staightchained and saturated fatly radicals are added and homogenised with the thermoplasticised starch in selected quantity ratios. The invention also relates to the process for producing such a shape-processable composite material and its use to produce mouldings, e.g. packaging materials such as foils, bottles, jars, boxes and the like.
