Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0722834A2] The method uses a spray device (11) for spraying water or other cleaning fluid, and a doctor blade (8), associated with at least one roller drive mechanism. The cleaning is carried out in a multiply repeatable washing sequence. The time of the sequence can be freely selected or is self-adjusting. Each individual washing sequence includes spraying the washing fluid, eg. water, distributing the washing fluid and periodically wiping the roller drive mechanism. As an alternative to water, a vegetable based oil may be used. While maintaining the washing sequence, the following processes may selectively be carried out: cleaning a colour roller mechanism (4); cleaning a colour roller mechanism (4) and a plate on the plate cylinder (1); or cleaning a colour roller mechanism (4), the cylinder plate and a damping roller (3). Preferably, the number and/or time of cleaning sequences increases with increasing circumferential length of the rollers and cylinder. The cleaning time may be corrected to a value which corresponds to the increase or decrease in dimension of the roller/cylinder to be cleaned.
