[origin: EP0723254A1] The system uses a number of information and emergency call posts (INS1) positioned at spaced points within a public space or along a motorway etc., each having 3 operating buttons (7,8,9), for initiating an emergency call, requesting information and initiating an emergency call by a wheelchair user respectively. The posts are linked to a central information and emergency call handling point via 3 line pairs, with a microcomputer within each post for monitoring and supervising its operation.
