Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0723858A1] The method involves determining the position of the pressure ram (16,18) with an angle encoder (32) and computer. The position is related to the measured pressing force on the ram. The pressing force on the pressure rams of at least one ram pair is measured for each encoder angle section and stored. For each section, the theoretical vertical ram pair displacement is computed from the geometry of the pressure roller (20) and ram head and their relative positions and is stored. A force-displacement correction table stored in the computer represents the influence of the Hertz surface pressure between the ram head and roller and the expansion characteristic of the press on the actual vertical displacement of the ram pair with force. The computer reduces the theoretical displacement value for individual angle steps by the corresp. correction value form the table.
