[origin: EP0724132A1] The safety mechanism consists of a rotor (8) with a detonator, held by a locking system in a position in which the detonator is not aligned with the pyrotechnic chain. It incorporates a supporting ring (15) which is able to slide axially and has a spherical recess to receive the rotor. The ring is held against the rotor by a flexible element which also ensures that the rotor is held in the locked position, while the rotor can move axially together with the ring when the projectile is armed. A first locking element is provided by a flat surface (13) on the rotor, enabling it to be held against a flat surface of the housing by the supporting ring (15). The flexible element is in the form of a split elastic seal ring (17) which fits into a peripheral groove (18) in the supporting ring (15) and engages with a conical surface (19) in the housing when in the safety position. After launching, the seal ring is forced into the groove (18) by inertia, allowing the supporting ring to slide axially and disengage from the rotor.
