Abstract (en)

[origin: DE4431400C1] The invention concerns a method and device for controlling a distillation or condensation apparatus including a distillation vessel (13), heat source (10) and condenser (8). A distillation or condensation apparatus consumes considerable quantities of cooling water which is discharged, through a length of hose connected to the condenser, directly into the drain. The aim of the invention is to propose a method and device for controlling a distillation or condensation apparatus to ensure a significant reduction in cooling-water consumption. The method proposed achieves this by virtue of the fact that the cooling water flowing through the condenser (8) of the distillation or condensation apparatus is passed round in a closed loop, its temperature is measured in this loop and, when an upper temperature limit is reached, cooling water is replaced by feeding in cold water until a lower temperature limit is reached. The device proposed achieves the aim stated above by means of a cooling-water regulator connected to the condenser (8) of the distillation or condensation apparatus through a pump (2) to form the cooling-water loop, a valve (1) connected to a cold-water supply line and operated by a controller (11), plus a temperature sensor (4) located in the cooling-water loop, the controller operating the valve (1) so that, when the upper cooling-water temperature limit is reached, the valve is opened until the cooling-water temperature reaches the lower limit.
