[origin: EP0726549A2] An alternating magnetic field is produced by a transmitter having 18 windings (12) divided into two equal gps. (13A, 13B) by a gap (15) maintained by spacers (14). All windings lie in a plane at right angles to the direction of movement through a monitoring zone. At least one receiver (65) is arranged in the interior (11) of the gate with coils (18-20) in figure-eight formation for sufficiently rapid detection of any electronic tag on an article carried past it.
