[origin: WO9512753A1] In an internal combustion engine with at least one working cylinder (I), a reciprocating working piston (2) therein is connected via a piston rod to a second piston (10) which can reciprocate in a blower cylinder (II). The shared piston rod is connected to the crank drive of the internal combustion engine and there are corresponding inlet, outlet and connecting channels to the working and blower cylinders. The inlet channel (11) opens in the wall of the blower cylinder (II) at a point cleared by the charging piston (10) at the top dead centre (tdc) of the working (2) or blower (10) piston. Between the working (I) and blower (II) cylinder there is a combustion mixture connecting channel (6) which connects an outlet aperture (12) at the end of the blower cylinder (II) corresponding to the bottom dead centre (bdc) to an inlet slot (5) in the working cylinder (I) which is cleared at the bdc of the working piston (2).
