[origin: DE4339595C1] It has been customary to date to measure the length of a link-chain, e.g. for a yacht anchor, by measuring rotational speed at a sprocket wheel (sprocket, chain wheel). According to the invention, the chain is guided by a sensor which uses a radio-frequency (high-frequency) electric field to detect the individual links and outputs corresponding counting pulses to an evaluation device which converts the counting pulses into a measure of length. It is thereby possible, for example, to run out an anchor chain in a simple way precisely to a specific depth and thereafter to recover it. <IMAGE>
