[origin: EP0727264A1] The procedure involves taking sheet steel from a roll (40), forming it into a first cylinder, fitting a cover onto the cylinder's upper end, lifting the assembly to a height corresponding to that of the steel sheet, forming a second cylinder beneath the first, and joining the two together before fastening to a base of appropriate diameter. Each cylinder is made by rolling the steel sheet as it is unwound from the roll, monitoring its curvature to produce a cylinder of the required diameter. As the steel sheet leaves the roll it is passed between a pair of driven rollers (31,32), one fixed and the other moved by a power cylinder (34), past a third moving roller (33) controlled by a power cylinder (35) to adjust the curvature of the steel sheet. The cylinder (35) is linked to a detector (50) and code wheel (60) which measure the sheet's curvature. After rolling into a cylinder the sheet is cut vertically and the ends welded together.
