[origin: EP0728523A1] The roller is for a mill with two contra-rotating rolls (2) pressed to each other at high pressure. It includes a roll body with shaped anti-abrasion armour (8) having hard material strips (9) projecting outwards and recesses (10). The armour has negative profiling from the outside, in the form of grooves (12) in which the particles of material are pressed tightly. The strips (9) of hard material are only welded to the web-like profile projections (13) bounding the grooves. The grooves have a depth-width ratio of 0.4-0.75. The depth is formed from the sum of the radial web height of the profile projection and the material height of the hard strips.
