[origin: EP0729292A1] A saucer-shaped furnace bottom has a glass ceramic cooking panel on the top with at least one hot plate with a device to switch the plates in different cooking stages and for different functions. The device has at least one touch-switch or non-touch-switch through which the different cooking functions can be adjusted, with at least one associated push-button. The switch may be an opto-electronic one or a capacitive proximity one, located beneath the cooking panel. Switch actuation only occurs when the relevant push-button is moved. The switch-on process is time-delayed but the switch-off process is instantaneous.
