[origin: WO9514869A1] A beaker-shaped brake plunger (1) for disk brakes is provided with an inner ring groove (6) for engaging a retaining spring (11) for securing a brake lining (9), and an outer ring groove (7) for securing a protective cover (18). According to the invention, the inner ring groove (6) is longitudinally displaced relative to the outer ring groove (7) sufficiently to ensure that the wall thickness (20) of the brake plunger (1), which is reduced by the outer ring groove (7), is not further reduced by the other ring groove (6). The reduced wall thickness (20) is sufficient to transmit the brake application force to the brake lining (9), while the full wall thickness (21) of the brake plunger (1) is advantageously low. The brake plunger (1) thus has the advantage of reduced weight, without any loss of efficiency.
