Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0730058A1] The heating element has a sandwich structure formed by two outer rigid members (2, 3), at least one of which is a heating plate, a flat resistance (4) which is embedded in a first layer of a thermoplastic resin (5), and upper and lower layers (6a, 6b) of an electrically insulating material which adhere to the resin layer. It also has additional thermoplastic resin layers (7a, 7b) to provide adhesion between the heating plate and heating element, and at least one layer of a supplementary electrically insulating material (6c) between an additional layer of thermoplastic resin and an intermediate layer (7c) of an adhesive material which joins the main and supplementary insulating layers. The electrically insulating layers (6a, 6b, 6c) are selected from thermo-setting resins, and preferably polyimide and silicone resins. All the layers are made from the same material and are between 15 and 100 mcm, and pref. 25 mcm thick. The first layer of thermoplastic resin (5) has a layer of fabric, esp. fibreglass, embedded in it, while the intermediate adhesive layer (7c) is selected from PFA (perfluoroalkoxy), PTFE, FEP (tetrafluoroethylene hexafluoropropylene), or PEEK.
