Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0730923A1] Casting mould (1) for continuous metal-, pref. steel casting, has a casting cavity open at either end, with larger cross section at the upper, inlet end than at the outlet (5) for solidified steel. In the novel design, the cavity has a re-iterated conical construction and on the cooled surface, at least locally, there is a region (2) with increased thermal transfer coefficients. Pref. the axis of the mould is straight or curved, the cross section round, polygonal or I-shaped. The conicity is three-stage, or parabolic. The cooling surface is rough, with a mechanically-applied structure, with roughness depth Rt > 1.5 microns. Structural depressions, triangular, trapezoidal or round, are offset centre-to-centre by 1-10 mm. Various shapes may be used. The structuring is in the region of maximum heat evolution.
