Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0731024A2] The tips (27) of the cigarettes (10) in a magazine (12) are tested by emission of a beam of light in the longitudinal direction from a source (28/29). Two receivers (30,31) arranged on either side are constituted by planar Si photodetectors which receive light over the entire surface to provide a large region of measurement. The two test units (24,25) are movable and at least the lower unit (25) can be displaced longitudinally for removal of cigarettes from the magazine.
