Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0731216A1] Tamping is carried out in cycles, each of two tamping stages. In a first stage (A), a track section is lifted into working position, and two sleeper groups (x,y), each of at least two sleepers (22), are packed simultaneously. There are at most two more sleepers (z) located between the groups, which are packed in a second independent stage (B). The sleepers not packed in the first stage, are given an identification marking. Packing of these sleepers is automatically finished after a preselected packing pressure has been reached. Correction of the track position is carried out during the first stage only.
