[origin: WO9515544A1] In a device for depositing and withdrawing banknotes, the banknotes are guided in a closed circuit between deposit and withdrawal. The device has a retractable drawer (2) for receiving sorted banknotes and various shafts for different banknotes. Banknotes may be mechanically withdrawn from the corresponding shafts. The drawer (2) has an openable bottom (6) and at least one openable or open longitudinal sidewall (8) through which a manipulator (7) may be placed in positions that correspond to the compartments (5) for individual banknotes. By moving the manipulator (7) in the vertical or horizontal directions (double arrows 9 and 10), banknotes may be grasped and deposited in an underlying shaft. When the drawer (2) is once again opened, only empty compartments (5) are made available and the banknotes are safely deposited in a safe (1).
