[origin: EP0732284A1] The conveyor (1) for the sheets can be accelerated and or decelerated. The line (8,9,10) of conveyor drive mechanisms incorporates a sensor (12) in the form of a torque sensor producing a signal corresponding to the density of the sheets (7) being conveyed. The signal is passed to a plotter for detecting double sheets. The conveyor consists of suction belts with at least one conveyor belt (6). The shaft (10) of the drive mechanism (11) incorporates the sensor for the conveyor belt.
