[origin: EP0732484A1] The crankcase has an oil return line (7), located mainly on the outside of the end wall (9) of the crankcase (3), and directed downwards to the oil pan (8). The free end (13) of the return line is immersed into an oil pocket (14), which is open at the top. The oil pocket is located above the oil pan on the outside of the end wall. The return line is formed as a channel cast on the crankcase end wall. The oil pocket is defined by a rib (26) on the end wall.
