[origin: EP0732498A1] Motor torque is transmitted to the sleeved component (18) of the free-wheel unit (19) by helical teeth (28) engaging corresponding grooves in the sleeve. Transmission continues during axial displacement of the unit enforced by the starter solenoid's pivoted fork (30). The starter pinion (20), on the free-wheel's driven component (26), slides axially along the shaft end (22) to engage with the toothed fly-wheel ring. At one end, the sleeve includes a guide ring (32), rotating with and pressed into the sleeve. The ring is a short cylinder closed by an end-plate in which an aperture is machined equal in diameter to the motor shaft (10), with peripheral recesses corresponding in shape and angular distribution to the shaft teeth profile.
