[origin: WO9516111A1] In an exhaust system for a diesel engine with a catalyst (4) and at least one baffle silencer (6, 8) which are connected together and to the engine (1) by pipes (3, 5, 7), the inner walls of the connecting pipes and pipes (10, 11, 12) in the baffle silencer are given a roughness of 1 mu m at the most, for example by coating the inner walls with aluminium or enamelling them. This considerably reduces the accumulation of particles on partial load and soot deposition during subsequent acceleration.
