[origin: EP0734034A1] A manually or automatically operated device for rapidly disconnecting the power line between a current source and the user circuit in case of emergency, e.g. in automotive applications, for eliminating the risk of fire due to accidental pinching of the positive cables in the event of a crash; the device presenting a first and second contact member connected in series between two terminals of the line and movable in relation to each other in opposition to elastic means, and control means for selectively moving the contacts into a first work position wherein they contact each other to shortcircuit the line, and a second safety position wherein they are detached to disconnect the line; the contact members being defined by carbon brushes made from a sintered mixture of carbon powder and copper particles, and of the same type used in commutator motors.
