Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0735027A1] Prodn. of (cyclo)aliphatic uretdiones of improved colour by dimerisation, opt. in an inert solvent, of a (cyclo)aliphatic diisocyanate uses 0.5-3 wt.% amino-substd. pyridine catalyst of formula (I) and also 0.1-4 wt.% phosphorus cpd. of formula (II) and is such that (a) dimerisation is effected at 0-60 degrees C to a conversion of 5-70%; and then (b) without catalyst de-activation, the 1,3-diazacyclobutane-di-2,4-one is isolated as residue by thin film distn., with cpds. (I), (II) and the unreacted diisocyanate forming the distillate. P(R<3>)2R<4> (II), R<1> and R<2> = 1-8C alkyl or, together with the ring-bonded N, form a 5- or 6-membered ring in which one of the -CH2- gps. can be replaced by -CH(Me)-, -O- or -N(Me)-; and R<3> and R<4> = 1-10C aromatic or araliphatic hydrocarbon gp. (sic), OR<1> or OH.
