[origin: JPH08269852A] PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved latch needle having a hook, a stem and a latch gyratable in a latch slit, wherein the latch slit has a through-opening penetrated to the back of the stem in a region under the latch axis and restricted at both sides by elastically deformable side stem walls and said side stem wall has a supporting face corresponding to the contacting face of the back of the latch in the range of the upper edge of the latch slit, having decreased requirements on the constitution of the supporting face for the back of the latch and effective for improving the cushioning action on the collision of the latch to the supporting face of the stem. SOLUTION: The latch slit has a 2nd slit having a width larger than that of a 1st slit, having a through-opening and placed subsequent to the narrow 1st slit viewed from the hook side. A supporting face is formed within the range of the 2nd slit. The 2nd slit is closed at the back of the stem under the supporting face at a height lower than 1/2 of the stem height and a 3rd slit having a width narrower than that of the 2nd slit is placed subsequent to the 2nd slit.
