[origin: DE19512499C1] Shoe has a thermally insulating toe-cap made of an air-trapping material (51) able to retain its air trapping quality under compression at pressures arising during normal use.Pref. the cap is made of a closed or open-pored plastic foam, partic. being made of a nonwoven polyester material felt. It is pref. provided with at least one water vapour-impermeable functional layer (53), partic. of micro-porous polytetrafluoroethylene, which may be on the inside and/or outside of the air-trapping material. Cap may have textile lining layer (49) of knitted material made up of polyamide and polyester.Also claimed is footwear with a thermally insulating cap only in the toe area and a removable sole insert with an insulating cap at the toe region.
