[origin: EP0736440A2] The centre coupling can be retracted when not used via the two sets of scissors levers (4a,4b,5a,5b) which bridge a telescopic section of the coupling. The joining ends of the levers are fitted with joints and with catches (9a) which lock the coupling in the extended position. When moving between the retracted and extended positions the scissors levers move through a dead point ie. between stable positions at each side of the dead point. The coupling includes a telescopic damping section (18).
