Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0738503A1] The prosthesis has a head (1) connected by a neck (2) to a shank (3) which can be fitted by cement in the lengthwise channel of a femur. Head and neck remain outside the femur and are connected to the shank by a transitional zone (4). This zone has an outer annular surface (5) made from a material which has an affinity with bone or with fibrous membranes, which form naturally round it and create a seal. The annular surface is made from a rough or porous material which can be partially covered with a phospho-calcic substance. The exposed upper end of the prosthesis can be covered by a protective cap which is removed once the shank has been cemented in place.
