[origin: EP0739056A2] A component such as a coupling has a facility that allows it to be locked in position by turning a threaded locking ring (16) that is secured against external effects. Both the ring and the main body of the coupling have flanges (17a,b) that have a locking element (9) located in the gap between them. One element is in the form of a leaf-spring (9) that is loaded by tightening the locking ring and in doing so applies an axial force to secure the device. Alternative locking arrangements are possible, such as an axial coil spring and also coil spring loops located between the flanges.
