[origin: EP0740036A1] A time-locked safe, strong-room, etc. is accessible only when the locking mechanism is freed by one or more internal release modules (10a). An authorised person sets the release time using hand-held controller (30) incorporating key-pad, microprocessor, RAM, ROM and EEPROM memories and radio-controlled clock. An LCD display (34) guides the user and an RS232 interface (52) allows interconnection with e.g. a supervisory printer or PC. The controller identifies itself and passes instructions (SC) to a microprocessor in the module over one infra-red channel (72, 22a), receiving confirmation (SQ) over another (24a, 74). After decrementing the specified delay time, the module releases the lock mechanism electromechanically. Every operational change is sequentially recorded in EEPROM memories.
