[origin: EP0741048A2] A cutting device separates the clipping material into stable lengths and a thruster introduces the staples into the product, working with a staple closer. The storage roll with the conveyor unit, the cutting device (20) and the thruster (22) are arranged on a drum-type body (3) contacting the product (1) on one side crossways to the transport direction. A rotating, radially displaceable staple former in a pocket formed in the drum-type body running around an axis parallel to the drum-type body. The staple closer is located on a rotary body on the opposite side of the product to the drum-type body and is drivable synchronously with the drum-type body.
