Abstract (en)

An ultra-violet source (3) is used for drying/hardening off a surface coating on a substrate (19) e.g. a printed sheet on the cylinder (21) of a rotary press. A housing (1) contains the UV source (3) backed by a reflector (5) which irradiates the coating via an aperture (2) and an energy control for the source (3) ensures that two intermediate levels of activation provide reduced levels of output at times of cylinder (21) standstill. The housing (1) is cooled via longitudinal air-ducts, the source (3) is cooled via airflow through the aperture (9) and the pierced tubes (11, 13) and (15, 17) supplied with compressed air, respectively provide an anti-convection curtain across the aperture (7) and protection of the substrate (19) against infrared components from the source (3).

Bei einem UV-Strahler zur Trocknung oberflächenbeschichteter Substrate mit einem Gehäuse (1), das eine auf das Substrat (19) ausgerichtete Öffnung (7) aufweist, und einer innerhalb des Gehäuses (1) angeordneten Strahlungsquelle (3), ist an der Öffnung (7) wenigstens ein Luftauslaß (13) für einen die Öffnung (7) überstreichenden Luftstrom vorgesehen. <IMAGE>
