Abstract (en)
An open topped container (2) for contaminated waste has a lid (4), the walls of the lid and container each being of double walled construction with a metal envelope enclosing an interior space which is filled with cast material, pref. lightly contaminated metallic waste. The lid fits into a recess round the container mouth, where the opposed peripheral edges of the container and lid are machined to form an upwardly open annular groove (3). Also claimed is a method of sealing the container wherein the groove is cleaned of solid debris and then filled with molten Pb, which cools to make a permanent seal.

L'invention concerne un conteneur (2) en fonte destiné à renfermer des déchets contaminés, sur lequel est scellé un couvercle (4). Le conteneur et le couvercle sont séparés par une rainure (3), remplie de plomb (12b), et dont les parois sont usinées pour assurer une bonne adhérence du plomb. L'invention concerne également le procédé de scellement du couvercle sur le conteneur au moyen d'une projection thermique de plomb (12b). Application au conditionnement de déchets contaminés à partir de déchets recyclés. <IMAGE>
