Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0742562A1] A radioactive hot cell has a thick wall (3) with a metal lining (4) and an access port comprising a pipe (6) extending through the wall and enclosing a second pipe (11). An annular flange (12) closes the gap between the outer ends of the pipes, and the inner end of pipe (11) is closed by a double door (13). A ring (15) inside the cell seals between pipe (11) and lining (4). Also claimed is a method of installing the port wherein a cover (5) inside the cell initially closes the inner end of a through passage into which pipe (6) is inserted until it abuts the outer face of the lining. A flat annular flange (9) is bolted to the outside of wall (3), and the outer end of pipe (6) is then welded thereto. Pipe (11) with its double door (13) is slid into pipe (6), cover (5) is removed and finally ring (15) is secured inside the cell to complete the sealing.
