[origin: DE4407958A1] A yarn tension device (E) has a resilient, circular ring-shaped braking member (12) provided with a braking surface (13) which extends in the peripheral direction and can be applied under axial pre-tension (V) against a circular draw-off edge (11) of a yarn storage drum (T). The yarn tension device further has a carrier ring (15) provided on the braking member (12) and a stationary universal joint mounting (K) for mounting and pre-tensioning the braking member (12) which is movably supported on first and second universal joint axes (A, B). The second universal joint axis (B) is formed by abutment area pairs which can be lifted away from each other and pressed against each other as a result of the pre-tension (V). The abutment area pairs are disposed on the carrier ring (15) and on a support ring (16) which is mounted in the universal joint mounting (K) so that it can tilt about the first universal joint axis (A).
