[origin: DE4409876C1] An ironing machine has one or several upper and lower plates (1, 2) with inward facing ironing surfaces able to be pressed together. Each pair of said press plates (1, 2) are provided with at least two tensioning spars (5, 6, 7, 8), each moveable independently of the other by its own drive device (9, 10, 11, 12) in a direction perpendicular to the ironing surfaces. Each said spar pair has a stretchable elastic cover (3,4) interposed between each pair of the ironing surfaces.
